It’s official! One Direction’s sophomore album, Take Me Home, has sold over 1 million copies.
According to Billboard, they have become the first act since 2005 to have two newly-released albums sell more than a million in a calendar year. So who achieved this previously? Country star Kenny Chesney!
Take Me Home has sold over 127,000 in the past week, bringing its total to 1.04 million in the U.S. according to Nielsen SoundScan. 1D’s previous album, Up All Night, released on March 13 and has sold 1.51 million.
To cap off the year, One Direction’s two albums, Up All Night and Take Me Home, are the #3 and #8 best-selling albums of 2012. Who tops the list? Adele’s 21 is still leading the way with4.30 million while Taylor Swift’s Red is in second place with 2.59 million.
