Spanky, Alfalfa, Buckwheat, and the rest of the gang are back. Inspired by the shorts titled “Our Gang,” originally produced in the 20’s and 30’s — Universal Home Video is bringing a new generation of Little Rascals to our living rooms.
You might remember them better from the 1994 film adaptation but this latest reboot of The Little Rascals is centered on a group of misfit as they try to raise money to help their beloved adopted grandma (Doris Roberts), who is about to lose her bakery to millionaire Big Ray Kaye (Greg Germann). Led by chubby self-appointed leader Spanky, the gang tries a number of hare-brained schemes that all end in disaster leading up to their last and only hope — to perform on a TV talent show.
The latest addition to the cast is ten year old Rio Mangini. The son of three-time Oscar-nominated sound designer Mark Mangini — Rio is already considered a classical piano prodigy — not only has he performed twice at Carnegie Hall but he also earned the award for Outstanding Instrumentalist at the 2012 Young Artist Awards.
