Possible Release Dates for Breaking Dawn, Part 2

12. July 2010

twilight-saga-breaking-dawn-logoSummit Entertainment distribution head Ritchie Fay talked to MTV about possible release dates for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 2, and was surprisingly candid.  Basically, they’re not sure yet, but have a few possibilities.  (Part 1 comes out November 18th, 2011.)

“We’ve targeted a number of dates, and we have yet to determine when it will happen,” Fay said. “We haven’t even determined that it will be the summer. It’s still the source of discussions. We might have a preference when we see where ‘Eclipse’ ends up,” he said of whether it’ll be released in summer or winter of 2012. “It certainly might color our thinking, but we’re comfortable with either place. Right now, it’s a bit early in that stage of planning.”

In other words, if Eclipse makes more than New Moon (which it probably will), expect it to come out Summer 2012.  But it’s always possible it could be released even earlier…

Catching Up with Anna Kendrick

11. July 2010

anna-kendrick-in-glamourAside from her hilarious graduation speech in Eclipse, we haven’t seen much of Anna Kendrick lately, but that’s about to change.  First, she appears in the new issue of Glamour with the awesome photo spread you see to your right.  Next, on August 13th, she’ll play Michael Cera’s sister in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.  And finally, the movie she just shot with her Eclipse costar Bryce Dallas Howard (plus Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Seth Rogen) comes out later this year.  It just switched its title from I’m with Cancer to the slightly-less-depressing sounding Live with It.

An excerpt from the Glamour interview:

“And the first time I met Robert Pattinson, I kept thinking, ‘Cedric Diggory from Harry Potter!’ He never got his guitar out on set, but always carried a beaten-up book, like an English poet.” If we didn’t love Anna so much, we’d be reeling with jealousy.

Ashley Greene Wins Peta Award

11. July 2010

Ashley GreeneEarlier this summer, Twilight’s Ashley Greene became the new face of Avon’s teen-oriented “Mark” brand.  Since Avon is one of the few cosmetics companies that doesn’t ever test its products on animals, PETA has seen fit to award Ashley their “Kind Choices Award”.

Officially, Ashley won “for her compassionate decision to represent Avon, which led the cosmetics industry by ending all tests on animals and is widely recognized for its commitment to a cruelty-free testing policy,” and for “encouraging millions of Twilight fans and other young people to choose makeup that’s fun, not fatal.”

The Twilight Examiner notes that Twilight itself won PETA’s “Most Animal-Friendly Movie” award.

‘Despicable Me’ Opens Huge

10. July 2010

despicable-meWhile the summer got off to a slow start, there have been a bunch of success stories this month.  The latest: Miranda Cosgrove’s Despicable Me opened this Friday with over $20 million, surpassing expectations and on its way to about $60 million for the whole weekend.

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, meanwhile, is still doing great and will likely come in second with $35 million.  That’ll give it $240 million after only twelve days.

Jackson Rathbone’s The Last Airbender, meanwhile, will make about $17 million this weekend and has a shot at crossing $100 million total.

Miranda Cosgrove’s ‘Despicable Me’ Opens

9. July 2010

Miranda CosgroveJust a reminder: Despicable Me, the new animated comedy featuring the voices of Miranda Cosgrove and Steve Carell, opened today.  It got overwhelmingly good reviews — nearly 80%, according to Rotten Tomatoes.

So will it beat Eclipse for the weekend?

Short answer: it might.  New Moon dropped quite a lot from its first weekend to its second, and if Eclipse does the same, Despicable Me could be the #1 movie this weekend.  Even so, it doesn’t have much chance of catching up to Eclipse’s total box office — already over $200 million.

Eclipse Costume Designer Talks Deleted Scene

9. July 2010

nikki-reedWhat kind of deleted scenes might we expect The Twilight Saga: Eclipse’s DVD release to contain?  In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the movie’s costume designer, Tish Monaghan, revealed that some cool-sounding elements of Rosalie’s back story got cut from the movie:

Unfortunately in the film, we only see her arriving at the door [in her wedding dress].  I’m not sure why the scene with her floating down the hallway was cut out — maybe it’s because the element of surprise had a stronger impact. They didn’t want us to know in advance who was coming to the door. But we made a silk train for her that floated down the hallway as she kind of hydroplaned down the carpet. [Actress Nikki Reed] was mounted on a contraption, almost like a bicycle seat, and the camera was in front of her and to the side, and she just went whoooooooosh. She was rolled down the hallway at quite the speed and a fan would blow up her veil so that it was trailing behind her. It looked wonderful.”

I’d love to see that!  Vampire Bride Rosalie was one of the coolest parts of Eclipse.

Kristen Stewart on the Breaking Dawn Shoot

8. July 2010

kristen-stewart-eclipse-junketIn addition to interviewing Robert Pattinson, Cinematical also grilled Kristen Stewart on the upcoming back-to-back shoot for the two Breaking Dawn movies:

Now that you’ve done three of these are there things that you wish had made into the movie from the book that didn’t?
I mean every single time we watch one of the movies, especially when the cast watches it together, it’s always an incredibly frustrating experience. That’s why I’m glad that Breaking Dawn is going to be two movies, which I can finally say. So there’s going to be less of that, less of having to lose stuff. I know you want specific things but I’m trying to think of one now but I can’t.

How long have you known that Breaking Dawn was going to be two films, and how long will the shoot be?
The shoot is going to be something like six months. We start in October. I think we’re not going to be finished until maybe March or something, maybe February. I clearly don’t really look at the schedule. I had to hold onto this forever. They’ve been talking about it for a really long time and we all definitely knew that it was going to be two movies forever now. It’s been really hard not to say that. We’re all really stoked on that.

Robert Pattinson Talks ‘Breaking Dawn’, Shaving His Head

8. July 2010

robert-pattinson-3In a new interview with Cinematical, Robert Pattinson admits he hasn’t even read Breaking Dawn yet — on purpose — and wonders aloud whether they’d let him get away with giving Edward a haircut:

In Breaking Dawn, what do you think Edward’s evolution will be?
Pattinson:
I haven’t read it yet! I mean, it’s weird – I’m starting it a month after this job and it’s something I’m quite glad I haven’t read it yet. I didn’t intend to not read it until now, it’s quite exciting. I have no idea, I just heard brief rumors about what happens in the story but I don’t really know what happens at all

Your current haircut is shorter than Edward’s. How are you going to go about getting your long hair back for Breaking Dawn?
Pattinson:
I’m thinking maybe Edward got a haircut – it might be easier. I didn’t even think about that when I got it cut, that is a bit silly. Vampires can cut their hair though, so I like the idea of Edward having a shaved head in the last one. That [would be] pretty cool.
