For the full six-day opening period from Tuesday at midnight through Monday, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse made an estimated $175 million.
That didn’t beat, but is essentially on par with, New Moon’s $179 million over Thanksgiving weekend, and Spider-Man 2’s all-time July 4th record of $180 million.
Outside the U.S., the movie has already made $100 million, meaning that in total, Eclipse has already made well over a quarter billion dollars. Crazy.
Today we’re talking about the official Twilight Night, as announced by Summit Entertainment. In anticipation of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse’s release on June 30th, fans can hit up the nationwide viewing parties on June 26th, the date that a real lunar eclipse takes place.
The nominees for the Teen Choice Awards are out. We recently reported that the host for this year will be pop sensation Katy Perry. Now it’s time to run down the list of nominees. This year there are some obvious front-runners in the nominations pack who are destined to take home a surfboard trophy.
We were at a big fan event, and there’s thousands of fans. We walk around signing autographs, and they usually don’t have something to sign, so they stick out their hand or arm for you to sign. So I’m going down the line signing arms…and I get to an arm that has a gigantic wolf pack tattoo. And I’m like, “Is that real?” And she goes, “Yeah, feel it.” And I go, “Yeah, okay, it’s real.” And she goes, “Can you sign right below it? Like, right here?” And I was like: please don’t tell me she’s going to tattoo this to her. Sure enough, the very next day, I get a call from a buddy saying, “Did you sign somebody’s arm? Because it’s tattooed to her now.” I didn’t know whether to feel bad or [think] that’s cool.
The Teen Choice Awards just announced their 2010 nominees, which included a bunch of nominations for The Twilight Saga: New Moon, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, and even The Runaways.
The most-nominated TV shows include Gossip Girl, The Secret Life of the American Teenager, Glee, Jonas, and The Vampire Diaries.
With over fifty (!) different categories, we won’t list them all here, but you can check out the full list — and vote for the winners — at TeenChoiceAwards.com.
The big story at the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday was Twilight sweeping everything again. But the second-biggest story was the swearing — which was pretty much nonstop and censored so ineffectively that MTV just issued an apology:
The MTV Movie Awards is a live televised event known for irreverent comedy and a party atmosphere where our guests speak more freely than they otherwise might. While we aired the live broadcast with a delay, we were unable to mute every word that some might find objectionable. All of these words will be muted in subsequent airings. We sincerely apologize to those in our audience who were offended by any objectionable words that might have slipped by for the live airing.
Were you surprised by all the R-rated language? Or do you think this is a big deal over nothing?
The MTV Movie Awards were watched by 5.8 million viewers on Sunday night, according to Deadline.com.
That’s about even with last year, but the amount of teen girls who tuned in this year rose by 6%, presumably thanks to the Twilight series once again cleaning up.
Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson won Best Kiss at the MTV Movie Awards last night for the second year running. But unlike last year, where they teased us with an almost-kiss, they actually managed to lock lips this time! Check it out if you missed it:
Just a couple hours ago, The Twilight Saga: New Moon won Best Movie at the MTV Movie Awards over Avatar, Harry Potter, The Hangover, and Alice in Wonderland. (Check out all the winners here.) Peter Facinelli spoke on behalf of the whole cast, and thanked the fans, Stephenie Meyer, and even Justin Bieber. Check out the clip below (though be warned, the censors didn’t do a very good job bleeping things out):
