Breaking Dawn Being Offered to Major Directors

16. March 2010

twilight-saga-breaking-dawn-logoEntertainment Weekly has revealed that Summit Entertainment has “reached out” to three different high profile directors, with the intent on seeing if they’d be interested in directing The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn.

Breaking Dawn will likely be two movies, but the idea is for them to shoot back-to-back with the same director.

So who are the possibilities?

Gus Van Sant, Sofia Coppola, and Bill Condon.

Van Sant directed Good Will Hunting, Milk, and a bunch of movies about teens, including Finding Forrester, Paranoid Park, and Elephant.  He’s a particularly interesting choice because Robert Pattinson publicly suggested him a few months ago.

Coppola, meanwhile, directed Lost in Translation and The Virgin Suicides, while Condon did Dreamgirls and Gods and Monsters.

It’s possible that none of them will be interested, but it shows that Summit is going for well-established, talented directors.  Very excited by the possibilities!

In just a few days, Los Angeles will be taken over by a force unlike any other because the Twilight Convention is coming to town. For hard core fans, this is the opportunity of a lifetime. The package also includes in-person autographs from all of the Twilight-ers that are confirmed to be in attendance, who by the way will be: Peter Facinelli, Kellan Lutz, Alex Meraz, Chaske Spencer, Kiowa Gordon, Charlie Bewley, and Justin Chon.

Chris Weitz Definitely Not Doing Breaking Dawn?

4. March 2010

twilight official twitter chris weitzIn a new report on Deadline about Chris Weitz’s next movie, the drama The Gardener, it’s mentioned that Weitz most likely will not sign up for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, despite the good job he did on New Moon:

Insiders said Weitz won’t return for the Twilight finale, and that Summit is already taking aim at another high-end director. [But] Weitz said he didn’t choose The Gardener over Twilight—the latter is still being written.

Sounds like Summit may have offered it to him, but decided to move on after he said he wanted to make The Gardener instead.  I’m very intrigued by who this new “high-end director” is, though.  Any suggestions?

Kellan Lutz Wants Chris Weitz, Doesn’t Want 3D

3. March 2010

Kellan LutzKellan Lutz talked to MTV recently and spilled a lot about his hopes and desires regarding The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn.  As he’s mentioned before, he’d happily do two movies, but he also revealed that he’d like Chris Weitz to direct them — and that he’d rather they not be in 3D:

“I heard they were talking about it. I don’t really care to see it in 3D … 3D kind of hurts my eyes anyways. ‘Avatar’ was amazing in 3D and in IMAX, but I don’t think I wanna see a little baby half-vampire in 3D,” he said, echoing a similar sentiment made by Stewart. “There’s just some scenes I just wouldn’t want to see in 3-D.”

And with no formal announcement that more movies will be shot from the Twilight Saga, Lutz is in favor of breaking the book up into two flicks with New Moon helmer Chris Weitz back in the director’s chair, if the film should get the green light. “I’d love to see Chris Weitz come back,” he said late last year. “I just had so much fun shooting with him. I mean, obviously I would just love to do [Breaking Dawn]. There’s no word. … Hopefully we get that phone call, and if they want to make it into five movies, I just don’t want it to end. I love my character so much.”

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart on Breaking Dawn

1. March 2010

twilight-saga-breaking-dawn-logoWhile Summit Entertainment, screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg, and author Stephenie Meyer figure out what they’re going to do with Breaking Dawn, it sounds like they’re leaving the actors in the dark.  A few weeks ago it was all but confirmed that Breaking Dawn would be split into two films, but in recent interviews, Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson both claim they don’t know what will happen.  From HitFix:

Robert Pattinson doesn’t “really mind either way” whether its film adaptation should be one long film or two.  “If they can make it one script… It depends. l wouldn’t know where the first one would really end and the second one would begin. I mean, either way, there’s [more] movies to do, and people like them,” said the 23-year-old English actor, who plays Edward Cullen in the movie franchise. …

As previously reported, “Twilight” colleague Kristen Stewart said that she thinks “the story absolutely warrants two films. But I think you could do it with one. It just depends.” She also told HitFix in a video interview that it wouldn’t be a bad idea to make “Breaking Dawn” in 3-D, either.

It’s been a few months since Robsten took center stage to promote New Moon, but now we’re learning that the cute couple is set to attend the the BAFTA awards.

The BAFTA’s, which are the British version of our Academy Awards, are coming up quickly. K-stew is nominated for a rising star award, and Rob is set to present. No word on whether or not they’ll be arriving together, but based on their track record, we highly doubt it.

Do you think Robsten will make a dual public appearance at the BAFTAs?  Or will Kristen be busy elsewhere?  Hit the comments section and tell us what you think!

Kristen Stewart Doesn’t Want Breaking Dawn to Be in 3D

18. February 2010

Kristen StewartWhile doing press for her upcoming independent film The Yellow Handkerchief, Kristen Stewart was asked about whether she had an opinion on the rumors that the two Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn movies would be in 3D.  Turns out she does:

I don’t know, that would be crazy. Selectively [3D], maybe. Certain scenes would…you don’t want [the birthing scene] to be in 3D. And also, you don’t want Renesmee to be scary. You don’t want her to like, fly into your face. I think Breaking Dawn should just be a normal movie. Now watch, it’s going to end up being 3D. [I'll be saying] “No, it’s a great idea!”

Will Breaking Dawn be in 3-D?

17. February 2010

So as Twilight fans are still discussing the whole one movie versus two movie thing, another possible switch for Breaking Dawn is causing a big-time stir. It just got rumored around Hollywood that the final flick might be in 3D. Now maybe at a first thought, it sounds exciting and cool and maybe you’re actually really digging this vivid silver screen feature.

Oddly, there are a ton of Twilight fans who are NOT happy about it. It’s likely that Summit is definitely on-board with the 3D option as it almost guarantees more profits at the box office.

Should Breaking Dawn Go 3D?

17. February 2010

edward-bella-running-new-moonAvatar did it.  Harry Potter is going to do it.  The new Spider-Man will probably do it too.

But should the two Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn movies go 3D?

The thing is, usually 3D is done to serve really big effects or battles — and all the really big battles happen in Eclipse, not Breaking Dawn.  And some of the smaller character moments — I’m thinking specifically of all of Bella and Edward’s alone time — wouldn’t seen to benefit from going 3D.

That said, when done right, 3D can be a great help to a movie.  It’s also a way for it to earn some extra cash, since 3D tickets are often higher-priced than regular tickets.  What do you think?

Kristen, Rob, and Taylor Still Not Signed on for 5th Twilight Movie

16. February 2010

Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor LautnerIt was finally confirmed last week that The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn would be split into two films like Summit Entertainment had hoped for.  But now there’s a question of logistics: how tough will it be to sign Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner onto the second Breaking Dawn movie?  Because they only ever signed a contract for four movies.

Now, obviously, they all want to do it (and not just because Twilight fans would hate them forever if they didn’t).  But this is Hollywood, and they’re all much bigger stars than they were two years ago, so you can bet their agents will try to get them some hefty raises.  Taylor Lautner, for example, will get paid $7.5 million for the drama Northern Lights — so why shouldn’t he get $7.5 million for another Breaking Dawn movie?  And if so, shouldn’t Rob and Kristen get that much too?

Summit certainly has the money.  Do you think the cast deserves more money, or should they just sign the contracts and get it over with already?
